Raisen district, once part of Bhopal Preseli State, became an independent revenue district on 5 May 1950. The district derives its name from the ancient fort at Raisen, its headquarters. It was declared a civil district in 1978, with Shri AC Dalani appointed as the first District Judge.

In 1956-57, a Civil Judge Class-2 court began operating in Raisen, and in 1974, Shri KC Sabu became the district’s first Chief Judicial Magistrate. The Additional District Judge’s Court started on 15 September 1975, inaugurated by Hon. Chief Justice PK Tare.

The District Court’s new building was completed in 1994, replacing the old Collectorate Office. In 2016, ADR Bhavan was established and inaugurated by Hon. Justice Shri JP Gupta, where legal disputes are resolved through mediation, supported by the District Legal Services Authority, Raisen.
