After arriving in Sindupoondhurai, Vedasarma and his family settled there. During a famine, he prayed for rain while drying paddy under the sun. Miraculously, despite the surrounding rain, his paddy remained untouched and dry, leading to the town being called “Tiru-nel-veli” (Sacred hedged paddy).
