The separation of the judiciary from the executive was completed on 22 July 2013 and has been functioning independently since then. On 11 August 2013, the Office of the District and Sessions Judge, West Garo Hills District, Tura, was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice T. Nanda Kumar Singh, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, in the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.R. Sen, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya.
Before the separation of the judiciary and the executive, the judicial functions of West Garo Hills District were controlled and managed by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Shri Pravin Bakshi, IAS, was the Deputy Commissioner (Judicial) of the district at the time of the separation.
