The Industrial Court was established in 1939 by Government Resolution No. 2935/34 under the Bombay Industrial Disputes Act, 1938 to adjudicate industrial disputes with the Hon’ble Justice H.V. Divatia as its first President.

Today, there are 26 Industrial Courts and 49 Labour Courts in various districts which handle issues such as strikes, lock-outs, unfair labour practices and compensation claims and facilitate speedy resolution of cases through Lok Adalats and mediation.
