The Judgeship of Bhadrak is headquartered in the city of Bhadrak, which holds a rich historical significance. Bhadrak was under the rule of the Ganga dynasty from 1211 AD to 1436 AD, and the Surya Bansi dynasty from 1436 AD to 1568 AD. Following this period, Suleman Karani and his son Daud governed Bhadrak until 1578 AD. During the Mughal era, Bhadrak was divided into 7 Mahalas by Aurangzeb, though it later stabilized at 14 Mahalas. The Marathas controlled Bhadrak from 1752 AD to 1803 AD, after which the British took over Odisha and reorganized the region for better administration.
The court of Munsif in Bhadrak was established in 1901, followed by the courts of CJ (S.D.) and ADJ in 1966 and 1987, respectively. Bhadrak became a separate revenue district in 1993, and the District and Sessions Judge court was inaugurated on 21 May 2011, separating it from Balasore. The territorial jurisdiction of Bhadrak spans 2788 sq. km, encompassing 7 blocks, 7 tahsils, 1 municipality, 1 NAC, 191 panchayats, 5 MLA constituencies, and 1 MP constituency.
