Junagadh district is renowned for hosting the first-ever Lok Adalat in the country, which took place in Una in 1982. This landmark event laid the groundwork for legal aid activities and the settlement of disputes through compromise. The concept of resolving cases through compromise introduced by this Lok Adalat has significantly reduced the number of cases, particularly in the state of Gujarat.

Currently, Junagadh District is home to 5 Appellate Courts and 19 Subordinate Courts, which are presided over by Judicial Officers across the district and in 8 taluka places. The two-story District Court building in Junagadh, over 100 years old, is of historical and archaeological significance. It houses 14 courts and features a spacious lounge. In the open area in front of the main building stands a beautiful and artistic fountain, adding to the building’s grandeur.

After Junagadh District was established as a separate judicial district, Mr. K.M. Bhatt served as the first District and Sessions Judge from 18/07/1959 to 08/05/1960. Since then, several distinguished judicial officers have held the position of District Judge.
