The Nayagarh Judgeship, established on 8 July 2011, was separated from the Puri Judgeship to form an independent judicial district. It was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty. This judgeship aligns with the jurisdiction of Nayagarh Revenue District, which was created in 1995 after the trifurcation of the old Puri District. Nayagarh Town serves as the headquarters, located 90 km from Bhubaneswar and 120 km from Cuttack, where the Orissa High Court is situated.
Nayagarh District Court functions in a complex near the Nayagarh-Khandapara highway. To provide accessible justice, additional courts are set up at taluk levels:
- Odagaon: Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Senior Civil Judge, Gram Nyayalaya, and Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge.
- Khandapara: Senior Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge.
- Ranpur, Daspalla, Bhapur: Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge.
National Highway No. 57 connects the district with Bhubaneswar and other regions.
