Belonia is a famous and traditional small town in Tripura. Located in the southern region of Tripura next to Bangladesh, it has a pleasant climate throughout the year. Belonia is famous for its archaeological site “Pilak”, where ancient incarnations of gods are found. Another attraction is the famous sanctuary called “Trishna”, which is home to various animals, birds, and orchids. Bison, wild elephants, monkeys, hornbills, and dole birds add to the beauty of this sanctuary. Every year a large number of tourists visit these places.
Presently, Belonia serves as the headquarters of the South Tripura Judicial District. The Court of District and Sessions Judge for South Tripura District was established at Belonia on 18 September 2014 with Shri R. Pal earlier serving as District and Sessions Judge. Additionally, there are judicial courts in the Sabroom sub-division under the South Tripura district.
