When Gujarat was formed in 1960, the High Court of Bombay also served Mahsana District. On 01-05-1960, the Gujarat High Court took over, bringing Mahsana and Patan under its jurisdiction. At that time, Patan had a Senior Civil Court and Civil (J.D.) & J.M.F. Court, with sessions cases and appeals handled at Mahsana District and Sessions Court. The government then established a separate police division and D.S.P. office in Patan.

An Assistant Judge was appointed in Patan, functioning under the Mehsana District Court with additional powers as a Sessions Judge. Patan was part of Mehsana until 2002 when it became a separate district. Hon’ble Shri M.G. Gulabani was the first District & Sessions Judge of Patan, followed by Hon’ble Mr. N.S. Prajapati, who has been serving since 01-07-2022.
