Meerut Court Recruitment 2024 (eCourts.gov.in) New Notification

In 1904, the District & Sessions Judge of Meerut oversaw the civil and criminal courts of the district, along with two Subordinate Judges, two Munsifs, and two Additional Munsifs. Initially, Bulandshahr District was under Meerut’s jurisdiction, but in 1894, three Bulandshahr tehsils were annexed to Aligarh. By 1904, Muzaffarnagar became a separate judgeship, and Sikandrabad Tehsil was transferred to Bulandshahr. The Meerut court operated from Jali Kothi in the 1850s, but during the 1857 revolt, it was set on fire and later relocated to the present heritage site, built in 1864 under Major Sir E. Leads Bart.

From 1861 to 1975, Meerut courts functioned under the Anglo-Saxon system, with legal practices continuing under British jurisprudence. By 1937, Meerut judgeship included District, Additional, Civil, and Sessions Judges for Meerut and Muzaffarnagar.
