The District Gautam Buddha Nagar was officially established on 6 September 1997, following Government Order No. 1249/97/82/97, by carving portions out of the districts of Ghaziabad and Bulandshahar. This district encompasses Dadri and Bisrakh blocks from Ghaziabad and Dankaur and Jewar blocks from Bulandshahar. Additionally, 18 villages from Bulandshahar were added to Dankaur and Jewar to form part of this district.

Historically, this region holds a rich heritage dating back to ancient times. In the Tretayug (Ramayana era), Bisrakh, located here, is known as the birthplace of Ravan’s father, Sage Vishveshwar. During the Dwapar Yug (Mahabharata era), Dankaur was the site of Dronacharya’s Ashram, where the Kauravas and Pandavas trained in warfare, including Eklavya, Dronacharya’s dedicated student. The people of this land also contributed significantly to India’s freedom struggle. Notably, freedom fighters such as Gopi Chand, Ram Nath, and Harsharan Singh, as well as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, used Nalgara village (located along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway) as a hideout during their revolutionary activities.
