Unakoti Judicial District set up with two subdivisions – Kailashahar and Kumarghat. This district became functional on 20 September 2014. Sri. Unakoti Judicial District was previously part of North Tripura Judicial District, which has now been split into Unakoti Judicial District and North Tripura Judicial District.
“UNAKOTI” is a must-visit place in this district. Unakoti hill, meaning “less than a crore” in Bengali, houses an ancient Shaivite place of worship with large rock-cut images and stone idols of Lord Shiva. It’s a key tourist attraction in Unakoti District, located in the Kailashahar Subdivision in the northeastern Indian state of Tripura.
Unakoti is situated 178 km northeast of Agartala, the nearest airport, 8 km east of Kailashahar, the district headquarters of Unakoti Judicial District, and 148 km southeast of Silchar. The closest railway station is about 20 km away at Kumarghat on the Lumding-Agartala line.
Every year in April, a grand fair called “ASHOKASHTAMI MELLA” is held here, drawing thousands of devotees from within the country and abroad to visit the sacred site during that time.
