Bareilly Judgeship was established in 1866, with Mr. Henry V. Star serving as the first District Judge from 1866 to 1871. The district has three outlying courts in Aonla, Nawabganj, and Baheri, and a new court at Faridpur is soon to begin. All headquarters courts are housed under one roof in a large two-storey campus. Currently, the judicial strength at Bareilly stands at 51 officers. The Bareilly Court has a symbol of the C.T.S Standard Benchmark stone, placed in the garden since 1904.

The criminal courts include 21 Sessions Courts, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), eight Additional CJM Courts, and three Judicial Magistrate Courts. Civil justice administration consists of the District Judge’s Court, 14 Additional District Judge Courts, five Special Courts, and 6 Civil Judge Senior Division Courts at the headquarters. The district has a well-functioning judicial setup with all courts operating smoothly.
