The Ghaziabad Judgeship was established on 14 November 1976, with the issuance of notification No. 7022/VII-A.N.358/76 on 13th November 1976, marking the formation of the Ghaziabad district on the same day. Originally part of the Meerut Judgeship, Ghaziabad began its judicial journey at the Model Town court campus in Gandhinagar. Shri Inder Pal Singh had the distinction of serving as the first District Judge of the newly-formed Ghaziabad Judgeship. The city of Ghaziabad itself has a rich history, founded in 1740 by Wazir Ghazi-ud-din, who named it Ghaziuddinnagar after himself. During the Mughal era, Ghaziabad and especially the banks of the Hindon River in Ghaziuddinnagar served as a scenic retreat for the Mughal royal family.

With the arrival of the Railways in 1864, the city’s name was shortened from “Ghaziuddinnagar” to “Ghaziabad.” Historically, Ghaziabad, along with Meerut and Bulandshahr, was one of three Munsifis under the Meerut Civil Judgeship during the British Raj. Given its location adjacent to Delhi, Ghaziabad serves as the primary entry point to Uttar Pradesh, often earning it the title “Gateway of U.P.”
