The District and Sessions Court, Bastar at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh was established on 14 November 1969 by separating it from the establishment of the District and Sessions Court at Rajnandgaon. On 2 October 2003, District and Sessions Court, South Bastar Dantewada and on 6 October 2006, District and Sessions Court, North Bastar Kanker were separated from this establishment. On 24 October 2013, District Sessions Court Kondagaon was also separated from this establishment.
The District and Sessions Court building is situated at a prime location in the city, between the All India Radio Station and Indira Priyadarshini Stadium, on the road connecting the bus stand and the railway station at Jagdalpur. On March 20, 1995, the District and Sessions Court shifted from the old building to the new building. Before this, court proceedings were held in the old hospital building near the Royal Palace.
